Venus Vs. Mars Poetry

Here's a poem I read in a teachers' staff room today. Thought it was relevant to our blog (it's just some random fun, but feel free to discuss if you feel the urge):
WOMAN'S POEM

Before I lay me down to sleep,
I pray for a man, who's not a creep,
One who's handsome, smart and strong.
One who loves to listen long,
One who thinks before he speaks,
One who'll call, not wait for weeks.
I pray he's gainfully employed,
When I spend his cash, won't be annoyed.
Pulls out my chair and opens my door,
Massages my back and begs to do more.
Oh! Send me a man who'll make love to my mind,
Knows what to answer to "how big is my behind?"
I pray that this man will love me to no end,
And always be my very best friend.

MAN'S POEM

I pray for a deaf-mute nymphomaniac with huge jugs
Who owns a liquor store and a golf course.
This doesn't rhyme but I don't give a toss.

The trouble with the woman is that she is completely underselling herself- makes herself an object to be pampered- she appeals for attention to her mind but writes like an idiot- She is passive and boring-
As for the Man's poem- he sounds as if he is less than well-endowed and needs what he says what he needs to make up for it!

Yuk. Do some people find this funny?

I suppose this poem just highlights some social stereotypes of men and women when it comes to relationships – despite its crudeness, I think it could be interpreted as a piece of writing that satirises some concepts (and preconceptions) of gender. With that, I think that humour can be an effective vehicle for social commentary, as it can expose people’s social/racial/ethnic/political/religious paradigms (either consciously or subconsciously). The fact that the poem got a reaction is a good start I suppose.

Yes absolutely right Kay- stereotypes are exposed, but these are so dated! Perhaps you will be less tolerant when you have done some reading. However please feel free to call me a miserable old git!

sorry but i think that this is very close and low-minded writing..
Even it could be funny i can't find it funny because that is exposing with a lot of facility a huge amount of stereotypes about women and men. And it doesn't make me happy to see that some people are comforting themselves in this kind of clichés on gender..
It was good to share it anyway!
